Traverse the deeply rooted traditions of the season, especially Harvest, Hallowe’en, Samhain, and Day of the Dead/All Souls Day, with this multidisciplinary presentation. Through music, history, and story we will move through sites indoors and outdoors, with a Dance Macabre in the cemetery, a traditional Celtic tune by the fire, a character-filled tango, and Bach by candlelight in the church. Performer Melissa Richmond will present works composed and arranged for solo flute, accompanied by stories and history about these traditions. Music by Saint-Saën, Doppler, Debussy, CPE Bach, Piazzola and more. Following the presentation there will be an opportunity for questions, treats, a warm drink, and a traditional Hallowe’en activity or two. Costumes are welcome. This event is funded in part by the NH State Council on the Arts, made possible with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts Regional Touring Program. In the event of inclement weather all parts of the show will be moved indoors. Fire pit and outdoor heater will be used if temperature outdoors is chilly – dress for the outdoors temperature. Reservations in advance are appreciated so we can plan for treats and seats for all those planning to attend. Apple Hill String Quartet with Sally Pinkas

November 10, 2022 @ 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at WCCMA @ Union Episcopal Church

A musical odyssey spanning continents and centuries, sponsored by the Hopkins Center at Dartmouth College.

Our friend and Hopkins Center at Dartmouth College pianist-in-residence joins the quartet for a special Claremont Concert as they kick off their year-long residency at the Hop with a stunningly varied concert. With every program, Apple Hill aims to amplify new voices, views and backgrounds in classical music and to represent their global travels. Here they perform piano quintets by the French 19th-century composer César Franck and South African Bongani Ndodana-Breen (b. 1975) as well as the String Quartet Ragamala (2013) by Reena Esmail (b. 1983). WCCMA is proud to present this concert as part of our fall season filled with a variety of ensembles and music from cultures and traditions (ancient through contemporary!) around the world. This concert is sponsored by Hopkins Center at Dartmouth College and generously supported by the Frank L. Harrington 1924 Fund No. 3, the Arthur J. 1903 and Nellie Z. Cohen Fund and the Nathan W. Pearson 1932 and Sons Fund. With thanks to the Union Episcopal Church for providing the concert venue and WCCMA’s donors and staff.
