Echo Singers

The Echo Singers are a community group of amateur, semi-professional, and professional singers at the West Claremont Center for Music and the Arts who explore secular and sacred music from classical, folk, and contemporary traditions. The group offers a fun and supportive environment where we can explore many types of music, share our voices with our community, and learn together. Youth through adult learn how to sing in a small group format that may include group singing, solos, and small chamber works. Our focus is on building a fun musical community, exploring a variety of music, and building our musical skills (no matter your musical background).

Rehearsals are typically held Wednesdays at 7pm, on the 2nd and 4th weeks of the month. Contact us to sign up at: [email protected]. Rehearsals are informal and relaxed. If you like to sing, learn, and have fun with music this is the group for you.

The Singers participate in community singing which could be performances, collaborations, or pop up appearances around town, as well as participating in sponsored projects – like our collaboration with sacred music sponsor Union Episcopal Church – that gives us more opportunities to sing together in public more regularly and explore many vocal traditions. All are welcome, and we love exploring and sharing the music we each love.

The group emphasizes the process of music making together more than of performance focused rehearsals. In a regular season we may sing holiday music in the park, perform a pop-up performance flash mob style at a community event, lead the music at a chanted sacred service, participate in visiting artist workshops, and perform a community pops concert. Each rehearsal we will practice our regular repertoire, learn/improve technique, and try out new music.

Right now Echo consists of a small core group, and new comers are welcome. As we build a vision for the group during the spring/summer gatherings are flexible attendance, but as we begin preparing for future singing opportunities members will commit to regular attendance. If flexible/drop-in singing has enough demand we will offer gatherings for that purpose. Our 2x monthly gatherings include learning music skills like solfège and rhythm, singing rounds, and exploring new music.
