Taiko Drumming Workshop

A collaboration with Claremont Parks and Recreation. Join us during school break for a half-day workshop. Stuart Paton of Burlington Taiko will teach the group a piece of taiko music as well as about the japanese culture. This program will be offered at the Zotto Gym (behind the post office in downtown Claremont). Participants will be able to perform in the 7pm Taiko Performance at Arrowhead that evening.

Includes 1 hour lunch break, bring a bagged lunch. No participation fee required, donation suggested for those able.

Best for ages 10 and up, younger will be considered. Adult participants are welcome, first preference given to students. Registration required by Feb 25th (except for students already participating in the parks and rec vacation program): email [email protected]

Join us at the Union Church hall for this inspiring one woman show. No admission required (donations encouraged). There will be a Q & A and reception following the performance.With many changes taking place in our world today, it is an honor to remember those who paved the way for equality and justice during the Civil Rights Movement. Daring to Think, Move, and Speak is a captivating series of monologues and spirituals featuring African American women of the movement. These monologues will help educate people about African American women who gave themselves to help create equality for all while changing our country and our world.

Trena Bolden Fields as Frances Ellen Watkins Harper

Trena Bolden Fields is an actress and writer. With a strong passion for the arts, Trena believes in empowerment and transformation.

Trena’s has performed in Chavez by Diego Luna (soon to be released), as Norma in A Time to Kill at Arena Stage in Washington D.C., Ruby in Seven Guitars at Penumbra Theatre, Blonde Buppie in No Distance Between Us at Illusion Theater, Cordelia in King Lear at Cromulent Shakespeare Company, and Ole Rit in Dreaming Harriet Tubman at Stages Theatre Company. She has also been seen in other film projects, industrials and commercials.

Most recently, Trena Bolden Fields penned her first book of short essays, For Love. For Love features memorable short essays from Trena’s life.

She previously crafted a one woman show, Daring to Think, Move and Speak which features key leaders and supporters of the Civil Rights Movement. Daring to Think, Move and Speak has been performed at American University in Washington, D.C., Minnesota State University, Mankato, Dreamland Arts in St. Paul, Minnesota and the University of Sonora in Hermosillo, Mexico. These monologues continue to help educate people about individuals who gave themselves to help create equality for all while changing our country and our world.

In her working career, Trena has served as a career counselor, advisor, advocate, program director, diversity consultant, teaching artist and instructor. She received her undergraduate degree in theatre arts and mass communication from Augsburg College and holds a master’s degree in educational psychology, counseling and student personnel psychology from the University of Minnesota. Trena received her life coaching certification from the Adler Graduate School. She is a member of Actor’s Equity Association and SAG-AFTRA and AAFSW.

Enjoy Holiday and Christmas favorites with some dixie twists, brass, and a side of banjo. Plus of course some of your Dixieland favorites! Local favorites the Firehouse Six Dixieland Band will charm you with their musical wit and variety. The decorations will be hung, making this a unique and festive event.

This event is FREE. but donations are suggested.

WCCMA’s annual raffle winners will be drawn just following this event.

 

FIREHOUSE SIX DIXIELAND BAND
Dr. Don LaPlante, TUBA, has just retired as the Superintendent of Schools in Hartford, VT. He hold a Bachelor of Music Ed. degree from Boston Univ. as well as a Masters degree in Administration from Boston Univ., and a PhD in School Administration from Univ. of Florida. He plays with the Claremont American Band as well as with the FHSDB.Vaughn Hadwen, TROMBONE, is a retired house painter. He is a former Army Band member, and performs with the Claremont American Band, the Springfield Community Band and the FHSDB.

Andy Buchan, PERCUSSION, was a percussion major at Western Connecticut State College and currently does a great deal of freelancing and is a full time piano tuner in the area. He has two grown children and lives in Charlestown with his wife, Lois.

George Parizo, BANJO, is a retired machinist supervisor. He performs with community bands in northern VT, the Springfield Community Band and the FHSDB.

Rich Brown, TRUMPET, has a Bachelor of Music Ed. degree from Oregon State Univ. and has returned to NH to teach music. He performs with the East Bay Jazz Ensemble, the Keene Big Band and the FHSDB.

Ed Evensen, CLARINET and SAX, has a Bachelor of Music Ed. degree from Boston Univ. and a Master of Science in Music Ed. degree from UNH. He currently teaches music in the Fall Mt. School Dist. He regularly performs with the East Bay Jazz Ensemble, substitutes in the Walt Sayre Orchestra and the Moonlighters Big Band, directs the Claremont American Band and the FHSDB, and directs and plays in many area music theater productions.
