Saturday Concert and Dinner: Olmsted Emsemble

Don’t miss out on the final Summer Concert of 2013, and our special Summer BBQ Dinner. See concert info below. The dinner will be following the concert, and tickets at $7/adults, $4 for children under 12. The meal will be serve buffet style and will include: Sausage, Shredded BBQ Chicken, Green and pasta salads, homemade hummus, and a selection of delicious desserts.

This performance by the Acclaimed Olmsted Ensemble will include the dramatic, rarely-heard Quartet in D Minor by American composer Charles Hommann (1803-1872?); Quartet No. 1 in D Minor by Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga (1806-1826), a Spanish violinist and composer whose precocious career was cut short when he died at age 19; and Mozart’s beloved D Major Quartet (K. 285), one of the masterworks of the literature.

This concert is made possible in part by a grant from the New England Foundation for the Arts

Beginner Harp Workshop

Join us for an opportunity to try out the harp, participate in a group lesson, and discover just how fun and easy it can be. Instructor Angela Biggs (soprano and harper) performs and teaches in Claremont and the wider area. In this class you will be able to get a basic introduction, as well as having the option of continuing on through private instruction, or with group workshops through WCCMA.

RSVPs are required by August 26th, space is limited, but additional sessions will be added if demand is sufficient. Email [email protected] (prefered) or ph. 802.738.0022. If you have done a beginner workshop in the past, let us know, and we’ll do our best to put you in the next step up group. Admission is by donation. For more info: wcc-ma.org

Thank you to the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts, and the New England Foundation of the Arts for their grants that make several of our big projects possible. Their supports funds the Olmsted Ensemble, this year’s Burlington Taiko Claremont Residency, a new Community Jazz Band, drawing/sculpting workshops, harp workshops, and more!

Taiko is Back, with a winter twist!

Poster 13x19Taiko Drumming Returns to Claremont

On Thursday, February 28th the Burlington Taiko Group will lead workshop and perform a concert for the community. This school break workshop will be provided in the Zotto Gym on Broad St (behind the post office) from 9:00am – 2:30pm. Registration is required by Feb 25th (space is limited). Best for ages 10 and up, but younger will be considered. Adult participants are welcome, first preference given to students. Registration required (except for students already participating in the parks and rec vacation program): email [email protected]. The workshop has an hour built in for lunch, and participants should bring a bagged lunch with them. This event is provided by the West Claremont Center for Music and the Arts (WCC-MA.org) as part of their Youth Arts Enrichment Initiative with support from Claremont Parks and Recreation. There is no fee required to participate, but donations are encouraged from those able. For full information, click HERE

Later that day a snowy performance will be held at Arrowhead Recreation Center at 7pm. Bundle up, buy a hot chocolate, and enjoy the performance by members of Burlington Taiko Group and participants in the morning workshop. This special performance is a rare opportunity to experience taiko drumming in the snow! No admission required, donations suggested.
