HopStop: Modern Times Theater (FREE)

Old fashioned puppetry and novelty music for families. This husband-and-wife duo from Hardwick, VT, presents old fashioned puppetry and novelty music for families. The two-person orchestra specializes in early jazz music and American folk songs played on the cornet, ukulele, upright bass and bicycle pump. Their original puppet melodramafeatures the misadventures of Mr.Punch, the world’s best-loved and most rascally hand puppet. A completely zany mix of vaudeville-inspired entertainment at its best.

Taiko Drumming Workshops
September 13-15, 2017 @ 3:30 PM and 6:30 at CSB Community Center

Stuart Paton of the Burlington Taiko Group of Burlington, Vt will return to Claremont and Charlestown for a special music residency program. This annual program presented by the West Claremont Center for Music and the Arts (wcc-ma.org) is a local favorite, and incorporates school workshops, public workshops, and a big public performance at the end of the program. There is an opportunity for everyone of all age groups to experience this exciting musical experience. Japanese Taiko Drumming is an invigorating ancient Japanese art that incorporates Japanese culture, physical movements, and rhythm. Programs are all by donation, so that everyone in the community can participate without financial barrier. This program was supported in part by a grant from the New England Foundation for the Arts New England State Touring programs, the NH State Council on the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Programs will be held around the region including 5th graders in Charlestown, and public programs at the CSB Community Center, and the final performance big at Union Church in Claremont.
Programs will include: Workshops: Learn the art of Japanese Taiko Drumming with Sensei Stuart Paton of Burlington Taiko Group. Each workshop will also have a rehearsal the day of the performance by Burlington Taiko Group. $25 suggested free will donation for afternoon and evening session, choose your donation amount at the Saturday workshop. Ages 10 and up, no experience required. Advanced registration is strongly suggested below, or by emailing [email protected]

An entertaining trip through New England via the music of our town bands. Join the Newmont Band for this concert to benefit the West Claremont Center for Music and the Arts’ community and youth programs. Admission is buy donation, so please contribute an amount meaningful to you to help keep music and art alive in our community!
