Hailed as “ground-breaking” by noted folklorist Mick Moloney and “first-rate, versatile musicians” by The New Yorker, Dana Lyn and Kyle Sanna connect the dots between their experience as composers and improvisers in New York City’s rich musical community and their deep admiration for traditional Irish music. Performing as a duo since 2011, Lyn and Sanna have brought their “Through the Looking Glass” approach to traditional music to clubs, festival stages, and concert halls throughout the US and Canada.
In “Arcs and Suites”, Lyn and Sanna present music from their two environmentally-themed projects: “The Great Arc” and “The Coral Suite”. The Great Arc is inspired by and concerned with extinct and endangered animal species. The Irish Echo hailed it as “a deep musical work full of lavish, evocative textures”. The Coral Suite is an evocative sequence of Irish tunes that mirrors the life cycles and natural processes that occur within coral reef ecosystems. Renowned fiddler Martin Hayes called it “beautiful… simultaneously traditional and innovative.”
Dana Lyn and Kyle Sanna also offer a post-concert Q and A at 8pm, where they hope to engage the audience in conversations about traditional music in a modern world, environmentalism, and to answer any questions about their musical backgrounds and approaches.
