HopStop: Genki Spark

In Japanese, genki means “happy, healthy and full of life.” This all-female, multi-generational group with roots in Japan and other Asian countries brings all things genki to the art of Japanese taiko drumming. This energetic show gets the audience moving and drumming, inspired by a passion for creativity and culture.

Programmed in conjunction with Kodo Evolution 2019 in Hanover, NH, USA performing at the Hop on Mar 5.

Shaker Table Workshop and Q & A with Tom McLaughlin

The West Claremont Center for Music and the Arts and the Claremont Maker Space are pleased to welcome master woodworker Tom McLaughlin to Claremont for this special program.

Participants will learn the techniques used to build the Shaker Hall Table designed by Tom. These tips and tricks will be valuable for other projects as well. Topics will include mortise and tenon joinery, making tapered legs on the tablesaw, hand-cut pocket holes, using a hand plane for polished surfaces, and more. Full size, hand drawn plans will be available to purchase for an additional fee (cash or check). At the end of the program the audience will be invited to ask questions.

Cost: $30 in advance, $25 for members of CMS or WCCMA by the 9th. $35 after February 9th. 

About Tom McLaughlin: Beginning with a rare three-year apprenticeship alongside master craftsman P.A. “Pug” Moore in North Carolina, Tom has enjoyed designing and making commission and Custom Furniture full-time since 1990. His designs have received recognition and numerous awards during his twenty-year membership with the prestigious New Hampshire Furniture Masters Association. Since 2001 Tom has also been teaching furniture making from his shop in Canterbury New Hampshire, and currently online through his website epicwoodworking.com . Most recently he has been featured as host of the public television’s Rough Cut with Fine Woodworking. He has also written for Fine Woodworking magazine, and the Adirondack chair he designed is on the cover of the current issue.

West Claremont Center for Music and the Arts is pleased to be partnering with the New England Classical Academy to offer an exciting update to the annual program, Sing! From mangers and wise men to nutcrackers and dancing reindeer, bring your voice and sing along to holiday songs and carols. This event combines with NECA’s December student Declamationes. About Las Posadas – A Spanish Christmas tradition reflecting on the journey of Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem in search of a place for the birth of Christ. Gather at NECA for the musical procession to Union Church before the performance, lanterns welcome.

General seating, we suggest early arrival to guarantee a seat. Donations appreciated to benefit WCCMA’s Youth Arts Enrichment Initiative. NECA will also be drawing the winner of their fuel raffle fundraiser following the show. Reception to follow provided by friends of NECA and WCCMA.
