Percussionist Mariana Ramirez will take us on a journey through the “Rhythms of the Earth.” The in this performance the audience will embark on a journey to both ancient and modern cultures demonstrating how our daily experiences are represented in music through time and space. This unique journey unique will explore the pyramids of Teotihuacan, a river of crystalline waters in Morelos, Mexico, and the criss-crossing subways of New York City, while listening to contemporary music with electronic sounds and acoustic instruments. Music will include “Pieces of Wood” by Steve Reich, where you will be surrounded by the majestic pyramids, listening to music the Aztecs might have played in their ceremonies; during your visit to New York City, you will hear “Rancho Jubilee,” a piece for three cajones that mixes rhythms and tempo changes, reflecting the city’s cultural diversity.
