 e has begun a New England tour\, running June 30th through June 20th inclu

 erformances and powerful celebration of Garifuna culture\, has performed o
 n major festival stages around the world\, and their upcoming tour include
 s stops in notably smaller communities across New England including with t
 he West Claremont Center for Music and the Arts in Claremont\, NH. Audienc
 es can expect an enchanting journey through Garifuna traditions as the Col
 lective presents their unique sound that spans traditional songs\, modern 
 compositions\, and vibrant reinterpretations of classic Garifuna melodies.
 \nHailing from the Caribbean coast of Central America\, the Garifuna peopl
 e are descendants of West African\, Indigenous Arawak\, and Carib peoples\
 , with a rich history of resilience\, cultural preservation\, and musical 
 expression.The Garifuna language was designated by UNESCO as a “Masterpiec
 e of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity” in 2001.\nIn addition t
 o the inspiring performances\, the Garifuna Collective’s tour will offer e
 ducational workshops and various opportunities for cultural exchange\, fos
 tering a deeper understanding of the Garifuna people\, their heritage\, an
 d their ongoing contributions to the world of music. The tour was funded i
 n a large part by the New England States Touring program of the New Englan

 ionally renowned balafon and percussion master Mamadou Diabate! No experie
 nce necessary\, learn to play African instruments including the balafon\, 
 djembe\, and other African percussion instruments.\n\n\n\nMamadou Diabate 
 was born into a traditional musician family (Sambla people) in Burkina Fas
 o (West Africa)\, with a long tradition of practising the profession of st
 ory telling and music making. At the age of 5 he started his professional 
 training with his father Penegue Diabate\, who in his days was considered 
 the best balafon player far beyond the bordes of the sambla culture. At 8 
 he began with his apprenticeship years with renowned balafonists of neighb
 oring peoples. In 1988 and 1998 he won the first prize of the “National Cu
 lture Week” of Burkina Faso. He currently lives in Austria. With his group
  Percussion Mania he won the Austrian World Music Award (2011) and the Gra
 nd Prix of the “Triangle du Balafon” Competition in Mali (2012). For his v

  the best balafon player far beyond the bordes of the sambla culture. At 8
  he began with his apprenticeship years with renowned balafonists of neigh
 boring peoples. In 1988 and 1998 he won the first prize of the “National C
 ulture Week” of Burkina Faso. He currently lives in Austria. With his grou
 p Percussion Mania he won the Austrian World Music Award (2011) and the Gr
 and Prix of the “Triangle du Balafon” Competition in Mali (2012). For his
