Dia de los Muertos or Day o f the Dead is a holiday celebrated by people of Mexican heritage. People m ake shrines to honor the deceased relatives featuring the person’s favorit e food and drink\, and gifts. This holiday is a joyful celebration of thos e who have passed instead of a day of mourning.
\nWe welcome you to join us for music and mask making with the Grammy-winning Villalobos broth ers who have captured the hearts of audiences around the world with their virtuosic musicianship\, infectious energy and profound messages of love\, brotherhood and social justice. You will learn more about the Day of the Dead and how to create traditional Mexican masks found at the celebration.
\nThis workshop is best suited for youth ages 7 and up\, but childr en 5 or younger can participate with adult assistance.
\nThis worksh op is free. Please make sure to wear clothes which can get dirty as we wil l be using paint and other materials which can damage clothing.

\nA mariachi performance by Dartmouth student Cesar Almeida Jr. wil l help us celebrate the holiday and enjoy traditional Mexican music. Learn to clap\, stomp\, sing and dance to traditional Mexican mariachi music.\n

Local contra and Englis h country folk dance caller David Millstone leads kids and their adults th rough simple barn dances accompanied by local dance band Blind Squirrel.\n
Millstone\, a former elementary school teacher\, has taught country dancing\, sword dancing and Morris dancing to students. He has called dan ces throughout the United States and Canada and has made six calling tours of Denmark and he has led dance tours to Prague and the Czech Republic. H e is renowned throughout the Upper Valley for his calling skills.
\nBlind Squirrel regularly performs at the Norwich Farmers Market in Norwich \, Vermont\, and at dances from New London\, New Hampshire\, to Thetford\, Vermont.
