Taiko Drumming begins today!

There’s still space for you to join us today at the CSB Community Center to learn about Japanese Taiko Drumming! Two session will be held, one at 3:30 and one at 6:30. These multiday workshops do not require you to attend all days. More info about workshops can be found here.

Then on Saturday a Trio from the Burlington Taiko Group will perform at 1pm in the field at Union Church. For more information, click here.

HopStop: Modern Times Theater (FREE)

Old fashioned puppetry and novelty music for families. This husband-and-wife duo from Hardwick, VT, presents old fashioned puppetry and novelty music for families. The two-person orchestra specializes in early jazz music and American folk songs played on the cornet, ukulele, upright bass and bicycle pump. Their original puppet melodramafeatures the misadventures of Mr.Punch, the world’s best-loved and most rascally hand puppet. A completely zany mix of vaudeville-inspired entertainment at its best.

Taiko Drumming Workshops

REGISTER with Eventbrite (via the link below), please send us an email if you have any questions about getting on the list! Japanese Drumming Returns to the Claremont area! Stuart Paton of the Burlington Taiko Group of Burlington, Vt will return to Claremont and Charlestown for a special music residency program. This annual program presented by the West Claremont Center for Music and the Arts (wcc-ma.org) is a local favorite, and incorporates school workshops, public workshops, and a big public performance at the end of the program. There is an opportunity for everyone of all age groups to experience this exciting musical experience. Japanese Taiko Drumming is an invigorating ancient Japanese art that incorporates Japanese culture, physical movements, and rhythm. Programs are all by donation, so that everyone in the community can participate without financial barrier. This program was supported in part by a grant from the New England Foundation for the Arts New England State Touring programs, the NH State Council on the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Programs will be held around the region including 5th graders in Charlestown, and public programs at the CSB Community Center, and the final performance big at Union Church in Claremont.

Programs will include: Workshops: Learn the art of Japanese Taiko Drumming with Sensei Stuart Paton of Burlington Taiko Group. Each workshop will also have a rehearsal the day of the performance by Burlington Taiko Group. $25 suggested free will donation for afternoon and evening session, choose your donation amount at the Saturday workshop. Ages 10 and up, no experience required. Advanced registration is strongly suggested below, or by emailing melissa@wcc-ma.org

Registration deadline extended, register now to the the early bird discount! A Multidisciplinary program for artists of all types, and a new take on our Summer Camp program from last year. Come together to create art and music! Whether you want to be a soloist or help behind the scenes, there’s a way for you to be a part of the show. For middle through high school students. Outstanding essays are eligable for a discount towards your registration fee, which will be refunded towards your registration if you paid in advance. WCCMA’s InterArts Summer Camp is an opportunity for students with an interest in the arts to come together to explore, learn, and create for 3 weeks over the summer. Participants will collaborate to form a multi-disciplinary performance for the public which will be shaped and guided by their talents. Tuesday and Thursday for 3 weeks in July participants will work together to create a vaudeville show that will be performed at the end of the third week.
