This Sunday: Newmont Military Band Performance @ WCCMA

Join us this Sunday for this fun annual benefit concert for WCCMA’s youth programs.

The Newmont Military Band, brought together by Larry Jones, of Windsor, Vermont, performs programs representative of the music played on the town green in the late 19th century. There are songs of “the war,” songs of love, marches (including Sousa’s!), dances, and songs from the old plantations. This concert is a benefit for the West Claremont Center for Music and the Arts’ Youth Programs. No admission, but donations encouraged.

Join the West Claremont Center for Music and the Arts this summer for a fantastic program of music traditions from around the world. All concerts are by donation, and held at the historical Union Church at 133 Old Church Rd, Claremont, NH.

Discover Afghanistan’s ancient Rabab, in this meditative and exotic blend of old world instrumentation, with a dynamic and contemporary flare.

Yankee Brass Band
Friday, July 29th, 6:30pm
Grab a lawn chair and join us for Quicksteps, gallops, polkas, waltzes, popular overtures of the mid-19th century, and more on period brass instruments. Rain location will be inside Union Church. BBQ dinner and dessert begins at 5:30.

The Modernistics
Saturday, August 6th, 7pm
Join us for a toe-tapping show of Music and Dance from the Great American Songbook. Featuring acclaimed tap dancers and vocalists Ted and Pamela Powers, with Peter H. Bloom on flute and Mark Leighton on guitar.

An exploration of rich German compositions for flute, voice, and chamber ensembles of the Classical and Romantic eras.

Creative Kids Summer Camp!
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10am – 3pm
July 12 – 28th
At Trinity Episcopal Church, Broad St, Claremont
$30/day, $55/week, $150 for all 6 sessions

Join us during the month of July for the Creative Kids Summer Camp. With Art projects at its core, kids will also explore science, music, and culinary arts, and enjoy different topics and activities every day. Snacks will be provided and created by the kids, and all supplies are included. Bring a bag lunch or enjoy free lunch as provided for ages 18 and under through SAU 6 at the Claremont Middle School.

For ages 10 and up, free or reduced tuition scholarships are available. Space is limited, registration is necessary to guarantee a space. Registration info here. Please contact us to arrange cash or check payment, or to request tuition aid.

Kick off the Summer with with the Arts this weekend!

This weekend is a busy one for us, and we hope to see you for some fantastic events!

Due to circumstances beyond our control the Friday June 24th violin concert by Alessandro Cazzato at WCCMA is cancelled. Please join us for our next performance on July 9th at 7pm for Qais Essar, rabab, and Amit Kavthekar, tabla, for their contemporary approach to the classical music of Afghanistan, and a rare opportunity to experience these fascinating instruments.

Thursday: Rehearsal begin for the Claremont American Band – First concert June 30th on the Bandstand

A tradition for over 60 years. Come enjoy homemade Norwegian meatballs from our secret recipe, and fresh strawberry shortcake with NH strawberries. The meal is served family style, and also includes homemade mashed potatoes, gravy, rolls, beets, and coleslaw. Coffee, tea, milk, and other beverages are served. Orders for take out meals are welcome. Three seatings are available: 5PM, 5:45PM, 6:30PM

Sunday: WCCMA’s Youth Voices student ensemble performs at the Unveiling of the Standing Lincoln at St. Gaudens

Saint Gaudens Historical Site in Cornish has a wonderful afternoon of activities and an unveiling of the new 12 foot Lincoln Statue! The ceremony begins at 2pm (some activities begin earlier). For more information visit: https://www.nps.gov/saga/learn/news/Lincoln.htm

WCCMA is thrilled to be a part of this celebration, and has gathered a wonderful ensemble of young singers and instrumentalists to perform “America the Beautiful” in honor of the occasion. Directed by Melissa Richmond, with professional support from vocalist Angela Biggs, and accompanist Chris Cheon, the ensemble includes 8 students from across the region.
