\nGerald Eze is a rising global musician from the Igbo land (Southeaste rn Nigeria) which is often referred to as the land of the rising sun. Eze\ , is a phenomenal Ogbu-Oja (master performer of the Oja)\, multi-instrumen talist\, and a Nigerian First-Class graduate of music from Nnamdi Azikiwe University\, Awka\, where he also works as a lecturer and researcher. He i s renowned for his excellent understanding of Igbo traditional music espec ially in theorizing\, teaching\, and performing Oja (air blown wooden inst rument of the Igbo) and Ubo-aka (an Igbo lamellaphone) within Nigeria\, an d globally.
\nWith over 10 years of studies under veteran performers in various Igbo communities\, Eze brings new energy into the African musi c scene with a mastery of several near-extinct traditional Igbo musical in struments. Eze promotes traditional Igbo musical instruments by exploring them in novel textures and styles\, thereby breaking the bounds of culture and instrumentation. Born into a musical ancestry of the Igbo which stopp ed after his grandfather\, and rooted in the Igbo spirituality\, Eze is a cultural ambassador\, embodying the griot traditions of the Igbo\, and eng aging his audience with entertaining stories and deep philosophies in song s.
\nHe founded Ichoku Academy\, an academy of music that trains chi ldren and youths in Nigeria and in the diaspora on Igbo music\, thereby cr eating a system for the growth of Igbo-African music to progress effective ly into the next generation.

Celebrate WCCMA’s 15th Anniversary with a performance by Burlin gton Taiko Group and a Japanese taiko demonstration. After more than a dec ade of annual performance with Burlington Taiko Group we are pulling out a ll the stops: See the biggest contingent of drummers and drums yet perform ing at Broad Street Park! People make shrines to honor the deceased relati ves featuring the person’s favorite food and drink\, and gifts. This holid ay is a joyful celebration of those who have passed instead of a day of mo urning.
\nWe welcome you to join us for music and mask making with t he Grammy-winning Villalobos brothers who have captured the hearts of audi ences around the world with their virtuosic musicianship\, infectious ener gy and profound messages of love\, brotherhood and social justice. You wil l learn more about the Day of the Dead and how to create traditional Mexic an masks found at the celebration.
\nThis workshop is best suited fo r youth ages 7 and up\, but children 5 or younger can participate with adu lt assistance.
\nThis workshop is free. Please make sure to wear clo thes which can get dirty as we will be using paint and other materials whi ch can damage clothing.
