Don’t miss Complex Stories, Simple Sounds tonight!

2014 Season Poster LetterThere’s still plenty of room at the Multicultural Buffet Dinner at 6:00pm, we hope that you will join us for this fundraiser benefiting WCCMA. Some of the items planned for Sunday: Indian Curry, Homemade meatballs with choice multiple sauces (clam pesto, red sauce, white sauce), Korean pancakes, Lebanese Kibbeh, Enchilada, Watermelon Gazpacho, Veggie Lasagna, Meat Lasagna, and more. People rave about this meal homemade by the WCCMA board and our friends. All proceeds benefit our community and youth programs.

Then join us for Kinan Azmeh, clarinet, and Dinuk Wijeratne, piano for Complex Stories, Simple Sounds. Hailed as a “virtuoso” by the New York Times, and “engagingly flamboyant” by the L.A. Times, Kinan Azmeh is one of Syria’s rising young stars. His utterly distinctive sound is now fast gaining international recognition. As one of the most eclectic talents of Canada’s new generation, Sri Lankan-born Dinuk Wijeratne was recently praised by the CBC as an artist “internationally respected for his virtuosity and sensitivity as a musician”. In redefining the sound of the piano he has been captivating audiences with his poetry and imagination. The music, a unique mixture of improvisation, jazz, Arabic and Southeast Asian ideas, may be difficult to describe in few words but is simple for the ear to savor.
